The Power of SMART Goals: A Pathway to Intentional Living

SMART Goals
SMART Goals

Grab your journal and your The LOTUS Within book (https://www.amazon.com/LOTUS-Within-Purpose-Ignite-Passion/dp/B0DDRDXB89 ). This week we will dive into SMART goals.

In The LOTUS Within, we explore how women can reconnect with their inner wisdom, create balance, and live with intention. One of the most powerful tools we can use in that journey is goal setting — but not just any goals. SMART goals. When we define our intentions clearly, we give our lives direction and our days meaning.

SMART stands for: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. These five components help turn vague aspirations into actionable steps that move us forward with purpose.

Let’s break that down:

  • Specific: What exactly do you want to accomplish? Be detailed.

  • Measurable: How will you know you’re making progress or when you’ve reached the finish line?

  • Achievable: Is this realistic with your current resources, energy, and time?

  • Relevant: Does this goal align with your personal vision and values?

  • Time-bound: When will you complete this goal? A deadline brings focus.

SMART goals are not about perfection. They’re about progress with clarity. They help us focus on what matters and say no to distractions that pull us away from our authentic path.

✨ Two SMART Goals to Inspire Your Week

Here are two sample SMART goals to get your journaling started:

1. Wellness GoalI will walk 30 minutes during my lunch break, three times this week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), to improve my energy and mood.

  • Why this works: It’s specific (walking), measurable (30 minutes), achievable (3 times), relevant (supports wellness), and time-bound (this week).

2. Professional Development GoalI will spend 20 minutes each evening for the next five days reviewing one chapter of the leadership book I’ve been meaning to finish.

  • Why this works: It’s focused, doable in small steps, aligned with personal growth, and has a clear timeline.

🖋️ Journal Prompts for the Week

  1. What is one area of my life where I crave more clarity or direction?

  2. Which of my current goals feels most aligned with who I am becoming?

  3. What resources (time, people, habits) can support my SMART goals this week?

  4. What distractions do I need to set boundaries around to protect my priorities?

  5. How will I celebrate my progress — even the small wins?

Remember, your journal is your mirror. As you write, reflect, and refine your goals, you’re also rewriting the narrative of your life — one that honors your values, your pace, and your purpose.

Let your goals reflect the woman you are becoming.

With intention,
