Professional Women's Top 10 Common Mistakes in Strategically Planning their Lives

Now we are getting into the nitty gritty of my upcoming book The LOTUS Within.

If you have not started yet, get a writing journal now! I want to share with you the Top 10 common mistakes that professional women make when strategically planning their lives, especially when they do not prioritize themselves or manage their time effectively:

1. Not taking the time to reflect on values and passions before making life decisions.

2. Failing to prioritize self-care and neglecting physical, mental, and emotional health.

3. Overcommitting and taking on too many responsibilities.

4. Not setting clear goals and objectives for personal and professional purposes.

5. Being too rigid in their plans and failing to adapt to changing circumstances.

6. Not delegating tasks effectively or failing to ask for help when needed.

7. Failing to recognize the importance of downtime and relaxation in preventing burnout.

8. Getting caught up in minor tasks and losing sight of the bigger picture.

9. Procrastinating or putting off important tasks until the last minute.

10. Being unrealistic about the time and energy needed for tasks and responsibilities.

By recognizing and avoiding these common mistakes, professional women can better plan their lives, prioritize their time, and achieve their goals while still maintaining their overall well-being and sense of fulfillment.

I’ve met so many women who are struggling with a mix of procrastination, responding to unexpected events, health issues, family drama, and an ongoing battle to incorporate self-improvement into their lives.

Prioritizing is a conundrum for many of them. Far too often, they get sidetracked from their own path because they focus too much on the needs of family, friends, and their community. I get it. It’s easy to be the person who helps others when they need it. But what about you? Which of the top 10 mistakes resonate with you? Write them down on your journal and about instances you have made these mistakes for your self-reflection.

The pitfalls that resonate most with me is 4 and 8- which sort of nest together. Failure to set clear goals/objectives and getting lost in the minutae/losing site of the bigger picture. I tend to never say ‘no’ to opportunities because I am an endless optimist and love challenging myself. But if taken to the extreme and not validated against my own goals and objectives, I could get lost in the mire of endless tasks that don’t take me to my intended goal or purpose. Thank you for the reminder to set those over arching goals!!!

Lindsey, great job and thanks for sharing your self reflections. Often times we get into the habit of just doing things based on what is in front of us as I do the same. Which is why it is important to have a strategy. The concepts I learned that I will continue to share, what we learn about ourselves and from others will be invaluable in our continued self development!
